Faculty Members of Sociology Department Participate in Sundarbans Summit 2026
Three Faculty members (Dr. Mumita Tanjeela, Dr. Rasel Hussain & Helal Uddin) of the Department of Sociology, East West University, participated in the Sundarbans Summit 2026 (21-23 May) as part of their ongoing research project, “Forest-Dependent Communities of the Sundarbans and Their Livelihood Vulnerabilities,” funded by the East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT).
The summit brought together individuals and organizations committed to the conservation and sustainable future of the Sundarbans. Conceived as a platform for passionate youth, researchers, and professionals, the event aimed to promote dialogue, collaboration, and action for protecting the world's largest mangrove forest.
The summit attracted more than 300 delegates, including 20 international participants from different countries. Participants included senior government officials involved in climate and environmental policymaking, renowned environmental experts and scientists, leading activists and conservation organizations, as well as local youth and coastal community representatives whose lives are closely connected to the Sundarbans.
The participation of EWU Sociology faculty members provided an opportunity to share insights from their research on the livelihood vulnerabilities of forest-dependent communities and to engage with diverse stakeholders working toward the conservation and sustainable management of the Sundarbans.
